Who are involved in recreation?
Many people are involved in recreational sports; research suggests that it is something we all should do. The following statistics and graph will show the Participant rate of people involved in recreational sports. It may shock you to read that the ‘lazy generation’ as older generations refer to them as, has the highest participation rate in sport and physical recreation. People aged 15–17 years have a 78% participation rate. Participation generally decreased with age, with persons aged 65 years and over having the lowest participation rate (50%). In general, males had slightly higher participation rates than females 66% and 64%, although this was not the case for all age groups. Participation rates in the younger age groups were significantly different between males and females. Males aged 15–17 years had a higher participation rate than females of the same age (85% and 70%). Similarly for 18–24 year old, males again had a higher participation rate than females (76% and 67%)

What about people with disabilities?
Blind Sports
Well as we said before, research shows we should all participate in recreational activities because it is beneficial, not only for our health but in all aspects of our lives. It brings everyone together, giving everyone a sense of belonging and it is helps you to focus and gives you feelings of enjoyment. So, why should people with disabilities miss out? The Australian group called Blind Sports are a truly great organization that don't think anyone should miss out on these benefits either, they have set up many groups around Australia helping blind people to be able to play recreation and reap the goodness just like everyone else.
